Eureka Education

Eureka Centre is a place of discovery where students can deepen their understanding of the social and cultural impact of the Victorian goldrush and the stories of men and women who risked their lives in the fight for miners’ rights. We provide teachers and students with tools and experiences to explore Australia's colonial history as well as the evolution of democracy in Australia. We offer a range of onsite and online programs delivered virtually to your classroom, as well as incursions for schools within the Ballarat municipality.

Schools within the City of Ballarat are offered a discounted rate of admission. Our programs are developed directly in response to the Victoria and Australian F-10 History and Civics and Citizenship curriculum. Education experiences are delivered by a team of qualified teachers and can be adapted to meet the specific curriculum needs of individual groups. Call or email our Education Officers today to discuss tailoring programs that will complement and extend your classroom learning.

Eureka!

In our ‘Eureka’ program, students will explore the lives and stories of the people who had a significant influence on shaping colonial Australia. Students will form a meaningful connection to the events surrounding the Eureka Stockade through assuming the voice of a key protagonist.

Students will utilise our interactive exhibition and object collection to investigate the motivations and actions of key figures from both sides of the story; creating a relationship with the beliefs and values and different perspectives of the people at Eureka and their impact on social justice and equality. They will analyse the cause and effect of key moments in the leadup to the Eureka Rebellion and the role these individuals played in the forging of Australia’s democratic society.

Length: 90 minutes (120 minutes for groups larger than 80)
