Acclaimed author and political commentator George Megalogenis joins us to present the 2025 Peter Tobin Oration on the 171st Anniversary of the Eureka Stockade. His topic is ‘Eureka, the rise, fall and return of Ballarat as a population magnet’.
George Megalogenis is one of our leading political and economic thinkers, with more than three decades’ experience in the media. Dealing with big-picture global economic and political trends, he has authored four Quarterly Essays and several books including, ‘The Australian Moment’ (2012), which won a Walkley Award and a Prime Minister’s Literary Award. He has contributed to numerous Australian and international newspapers and has been a regular guest on the ABC’s political analysis program, ‘Insiders’.
Following his presentation of the Peter Tobin Oration, George Megalogenis will be joined in conversation by Gabrielle Chan. Gabrielle is a journalist, columnist and author, and the Guardian Australia’s former rural and regional editor.
The annual Peter Tobin Oration honours the contribution of the late Peter Tobin OAM to the commemoration of the Eureka Stockade.
