Celebrate Torres Strait Island culture this NAIDOC Week with a book reading with author Bernard Namok Jnr and interactive singing with Deb Lowah Clark.
Eureka Centre is honoured to welcome author Bernard Namok Jnr, author of the vibrant, award-winning children’s book: ‘Our Flag, Our Story’. Nestle into a beanbag as you hear the story of how Bernard’s dad designed this majestic flag and learn about its symbolism.
Then jump up and immerse yourself in the music of the Torres Strait Islands with an interactive music session led by local educator and musician, Deb Lowah Clark.
Perfect for children aged 4–12 years.
Bernard Namok Jnr is a proud St. Paul, Badu and Erubian man from Torres Strait living on Yidinji country. Bernard is an author, broadcaster and advocate for the First People’s Disability Network. ‘Our Flag, Our Story’ (2024) was shortlisted for the 2025 Young People’s History Prize.
Multi skilled local and event MC Deb Lowah Clark is a proud Meriam woman of the Torres Strait Islands, living on Wadawurrung Country. Deb has been a passionate educator for 27 years and contributes richly to Ballarat’s musical culture as a singer-songwriter.
