What remains of the Eureka Rebellion? In this walking tour from the Old Government Camp to the site of the Eureka Stockade, discover this dramatic chapter in Ballarat’s history and the traces still to be found in our contemporary urban landscapes.
Along the way we will stop at sites where miners agitated for democratic reform and the government worked to quash a looming insurrection. The Eureka story will unfold through stories of protagonists from both sides of the argument, bringing to life the spirit of goldrush Ballarat and the subsequent shifts and changes at these historic important sites.
Guided by the Eureka Centre’s Hermione Verbeek, the 90-minute tour begins at the Old Police Barracks, Alfred Deakin Place. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear as the tour requires participants to walk a significant distance. The tour will leave precisely at the advertised start time, and complimentary shuttle service is available to return participants to town from the Eureka Centre.
